Four Problems with Young Earth Creationism

[Season 5, Episode 3]

A young man who grew up in conservative Christianity and attended a conservative Christian university is now actively posting videos about how and why he has completely "deconstructed" and rejected Christianity. Among other issues, he names Young Earth Creationism (YEC) as inadequate to meet the scientific questions which resulted from his degree in biomechanics. Many deconstruction testimonies include similar references to YEC.

YEC is a belief system that attempts to reconcile the teachings of Genesis with the findings of modern science. Today, the most well-known YEC group is Answers in Genesis.

On this episode we discuss the following four problems of YEC:

1. Insisting that the earth/universe is 6,000 years old
2. The cataclysmic flood model
3. Ignoring chronology
4. Bad fruit; driving people away from the Christian faith

In spite of claims to the contrary, many of the tenets of YEC are neither biblical nor scientific.

Teaching false ideas as unquestionable truths from God ultimately yields bad fruit.
